Postmarks originated to mark stamps as used, but over the years they have acquired another value due to their large impact on philatelic collecting, as they reflect important events, values, and achievements of our society, reinforcing the image and presence of the Correos stamp.

First day of issue envelopes

They are envelopes with one or more franked stamps, featuring a special postmark for the first day of official circulation of an issue. The reverse is illustrated with a motif related to the theme of the issue. The stamps constituting an issue are adhered to the envelope and stamped with the postmark for the first day of circulation.

The franking labels for correspondence are a philatelic collector's item, offered by numerous surrounding countries (France, Belgium, Portugal, Norway, United Kingdom, etc.) and which Correos stopped offering in 2006 when the Epelsa machines were taken off the market.
