HISTORY

ANNIVERSARIES. 25 years since the launch of bilateral relations with Liechtenstein

An image of Vaduz Castle emerging from the Alpine forests and mountains is the chosen motif to illustrate the stamp commemorating the 25th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Principality of Andorra and Liechtenstein.

The building dates back to the 12th Century and has undergone several remodelling and expansion projects over the course of history to become the current official residence of Hans-Adam I, Prince of Liechtenstein, and his family.

Bilateral relations between the two countries are centred around the numerous similarities they share, such as their small size, mountainous terrain and geostrategic importance due to being sandwiched between large powers. The latter has been no obstacle to maintaining independence as well as excellent relations with their neighbours.

The two countries also share common challenges in a context characterised by the powerful European Union market, agreeing on the importance of coordinated action to improve their position. They have therefore worked together since 1995 to ensure their voice can be heard by European countries and institutions by establishing a mutually beneficial partnership in this regard.
