ANDORRAN DIVERSITY. Chinese community
Of all communities in Andorra, a welcoming country with immigrants from all around the world living side by side, one of its most appreciated is the Chinese community, which stands out for its industriousness and ease of integration into Andorran society and culture.
It is made up of over two hundred residents, most of whom work in the restaurant industry or importing products manufactured in the People’s Republic of China.
It has an association that brings together members of the community, the Associació andorrana d’Amics de Xina, which aims to develop and consolidate friendly relations and cooperation between the Principality of Andorra and the People’s Republic of China not just in employment and commerce but also in cultural and social aspects.
The miniature sheet that Correos is commemorating this issue with, combines the flags of the People’s Republic of China and the Principality of Andorra in two oblique stripes, joined together by the Principality’s coat of arms, surrounded by various features typical of each of the two countries.
The Chinese side includes a panda bear, the Sky Temple and a typical Foo Dog or Imperial Guardian Lion, also called shishi, like the ones guarding the Forbidden City’s palace complex. The image of a small mouse symbolises the current year in the Chinese calendar.
The Andorran side features the head of a wood grouse and the Santa Coloma d’Andorra la Vella parish church, with its typical circular bell, set against a typical Andorran high-mountain landscape.
