History

WOMEN OF ANDORRA. Marcel.la Pelegrí

One of the best memories of childhood is the experience of having had a good teacher, thanks to their exemplary conduct and attitude with their students, and the education they were able to transmit, which can stay with us for the rest of our lives.

This is how her former students remember Marcel.la Pelegrí Esquerda, known as Señora Arana, a primary school teacher of Andorra la Vella, where she started work in 1942 and would dedicate 49 years of her life to the job.

Those who had the privilege of being her students recall her commitment to teaching, good manners, and above all, the critical way of looking at the world that she taught them. They learned to think, to ask questions, and to be curious and inquisitive about everything around them.

Her life dedicated to teaching earned her the recognition of the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic 2006, at the advanced age of 93.

The commemorative stamp, issued as part of the series Women of Andorra, depicts Marcel.la Pel.legri in front of the classroom where she taught.
