EVENTS. ESDEVENIMENT. COVID-19 homage

At the start of last year, nobody could have predicted that the whole planet would be swept up in tragedy in the form of a pandemic, or that it would disrupt our lives as it is still doing, even while we can see the light at the end of the tunnel due to extraordinary advances in vaccine production.

The plague was caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which despite its microscopic size was able to spread around the world and bring society to a halt in a matter of weeks,

while its lethal power caused the death of millions of people all over the planet.

But COVID-19, the illness which gave the pandemic its name, has also galvanised society into solidarity with the victims of the virus, and with all those who are or have been in the front line

battling the disease. Doctors, nurses, and all healthcare staff, as well as all the groups which remained active to minimise the damage done by the pandemic and help society survive those difficult times. State security forces, retail staff, pharmacists, cleaners, transport workers, post office employees, and many more.

The stamp represents an homage to society and its efforts to withstand the pandemic, symbolised by clapping hands, the central motif of the issue.
