PATRIMONIO NACIONAL.- Relojes.

A Souvenir Sheet with four stamps dedicated to clocks is issued under the denomination “National Patrimony”. With this issue the Spanish Philately wants to make known the magnificent clocks preserved in the Palaces of the Royal National Patrimony. The stamps show the most characteristic details of the respective clocks.

The 0,27 € value shows a clock from the 19 th Century which can be seen in the Palace of Almudaina in Palma de Mallorca. It is made of gilded bronze with a porcelain face. The figure seated on the clock is Calíope, the Muse of epic poetry, usually depicted with a slate and stylus or a papyrus-roll. The 0,52 € value depicts a clock from the last quarter of the 18 th Century, which can be seen in the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia). It was made in Paris by the clockmaker Ridel. The clock is made of gilded bronze in Louis XVI style. It has a base adorned with volutes and the face is made of porcelain. The clock has a figure of Amor sitting on a cloud on top. The 0,77 € stamp shows a clock from the 19 th Century, which can also be seen in the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia). It was made in gilded bronze by Jean Antoine Lepin. The clock has a rectangular base and on the case with its porcelain face we can see a seated female figure representing the empress María Luisa holding a child in her arms. The 1,90 € value finally shows a clock from the last quarter of the 18 th Century which can be found in the Palace of El Pardo (Madrid). It was made in Paris by Jean Baptiste André Furet in neoclassical style. The image shows the elliptical base with a column that supports the clock with a calendar. On the front we can see Venus, the goddess of Love and Beauty, greeting Cupid, a copy from a model by Falconet.
