La Fundación Príncipe de Asturias fue creada mediante acto solemne celebrado el 24 de septiembre de 1980, presidido por Su Alteza Real el Príncipe de Asturias, Heredero de la Corona de España, en presencia de sus padres, Sus Majestades los Reyes. Los Premios Príncipe de Asturias fueron convocados por la Fundación a partir de 1981 y son entregados anualmente por el Príncipe de Asturias, Presidente de Honor de dicha Institución. The Principe de Asturias foundation was created in a solemn act celebrated on the 24th September, 1980, presided over by the heir to the Crown of Spain in the presence of his parents, Their Majesties the King and Queen. Since 1981 the Prince of Asturias awards are announced by the Foundation and are presented by the Prince of Asturias, President of Honour of the Foundation.
The awards were established with the aim of rewarding the cultural, social, scientific, technical and human work of artists, writers, scientists, sportsmen and women, work teams and social and humanitarian institutions worldwide. The Fundación Principe de Asturias aims at making their awards the most important in the world. These, besides symbolising the social cohesion of Spain are a referent of prestige and international importance since they place our country’s culture amongst the world elite.
The awards have always been presented is the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo. The award consists of a sculpture by Joan Miró and a sum of money, a diploma and a medal with the coat of arms of the Foundation.
The commemorative acts of the 25th Anniversary of the Prince Felipe awards are sponsored by the UNESCO, an institution which has recognised the “exceptional contribution of the Prince of Asturias Awards to the World’s Cultural Heritage”. In the present edition, as in previous ones, awards will be given to the eight following categories: art, sports, social science, communications and humanities, peace, international cooperation and scientific and technical research and arts.
Correos joins the celebration of the silver anniversary of the Principe de Asturias Awards by issuing on its 25th Anniversary, a minisheet with eight stamps depicting the logo of the Foundation and the sculpture by Miró given to the winners. The minisheet includes also vignettes with no postal value referring to the different categories of the awards.

Rate A2 - €0.85. For a “standard” letter or postcard within Spain, between 20 g and 50 g.
Rate B - €1.65. For a “standard” Ordinary International letter or postcard addressed to Europe (including Greenland), up to 20 g.
Rate C - €1.75. For a “standard” Ordinary International letter or postcard addressed to the rest of the world (except USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand), up to 20 g.
Rate D - €2.10. For a “standard” Ordinary International letter or postcard addressed to the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, up to 20 g.
