España 2006. Exposición Mundial de Filatelia

HISTORY

Next year, Malaga will host the World Philatelic Exhibition Spain 2006 and on occasion of this major philatelic event, a stamp is issued depicting the official logo of the exhibition. The design is the work of painter and sculptor Enrique Jiménez Carrero and amongst the colours stand out the blue and the yellow, two colours very much linked with the town of Malaga: the blue of the sea and the yellow of the sun. These also happen to be the corporate colours of Correos. With regard to the iconographic elements, the stamp shows the trail of the numbers 06 depicted as the waves of two sailing boats. On the left hand side of the stamp appear some undulating lines simulating the traces of a postmark, the face value of the stamps and the dates of the exhibition.

Correos, through philately, aims to spread culture and encourage stamp collecting: this is the goal of the exhibition. Correos is also aware that the easiest way of reaching society is by mixing with it in everyday life and this is why open spaces such as the streets and squares of Malaga will become, for a few days at least, open exhibition areas where stamps and philately will be the main players. In the old part of town, in the Flores, Constitución and Marina plazas, in the Alameda promenade and the Avenida de Andalucía, in the Marqués de Larios and Alcazabilla streets, air-conditioned and glazed marquees will be set up around the institutional and commercial stands, the thematic collections and the Court of Honour as well as some of the more prestigious world collections. There will be nearly 25,000 square metres devoted to the World Philatelic Exhibition in Malaga.
