HISTORY

Amongst the current pop groups, El Canto del Loco, is one of the most important in Spanish Music. For this reason, amongst the issues launched throughout the World Philatelic Exhibition the Music souvenir sheet is devoted to this charismatic group; one of the most successful and most admired by the younger generations in Spain.

They are Dani (singer), David (guitarist), Chema (bass guitarist) and Jandro (drummer), musicians and composers but above all a group of friends who share the same passion for music. “We are not a group of virtuosos. We are riff musicians, not at all technical” say the group members. They started as a group in Madrid and launched their first album in 2000: El Canto del Loco, with 80.000 copies sold. The rhythm of their music and the lyrics of their songs soon attracted the young public. In 2002 they launched a new live recorded album: A Contracorriente. The Spanish and Latin-American Tour have made them win two MTV Europe awards (Best Spanish Group) and two Ondas Awards (Best Live Group and Best Spanish Group) for two years running. In 2003 they published Estados de Animo made up of 12 songs that gave them international acknowledgement. In 2005 they launched their most famous album: Zapatillas their best selling album up to the date. According to their own declarations, in their lyrics they express themselves as they are, capturing the social environment and telling what’s happening in the world. “Feelings is what gets through to people, and we believe in the importance of people”. Perhaps these feelings and the closeness to their public, together with good musical chords, makes them so successful. The four members of El Canto del Loco feature in this souvenir sheet, designed by Jesús Sanchez, studio together with musical notes on a stave, the name of the group and the logo of the Exhibition.
