HISTORY

The XXIX Olympic Games which will take place in Beijing this summer are the main theme of this issue aiming at emphasizing the Olympic values, the Olympic movement and the support of ADO in the development and promotion of highly competitive sports.

Official information states that 28 sport disciplines, 16.000 athletes and 203 countries have confirmed their participation in the Beijing Olympic Games which will take place in August. Besides the main venue of the games, the Olympic Stadium, known as the bird’s nest because of its beguiling latticed surface, and the National Aquatics Centre where the swimming competitions will take place, other six towns will host horse riding, sailing and football competitions. Spanish sport will be represented in the different disciplines by its best athletes all supported by ADO. This sport association was founded in 1988 aiming at offering top level athletes the technical and economic means to help them improve their marks. As a result, in the Barcelon ’92 Olympic Games, Spanish athletes won 22 Olympic medals. ADO is made up of three different organisms: Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), Comité Olímpico Español (COE) and Radiotelevision Española (RTVE) and is financially supported by 14 different prestigious firms that provide the technical and economic means for the fulfilment of sport programmes. The stamp depicts an athlete jumping and the Beijing 2008 logo. On the right hand corner features ADO, the Olympic rings and the colours of the Spanish flag.
