Coinciding with the International Women's Day celebrated annually on March 8th, a stamp is issued highlighting the progress made towards the recognition of equality for women in all aspects of life.
The idea of celebrating the International Women's Day originated in the late 19th century though it wasn’t until the 20th century when it was fully recognized as international organizations began to proclaim a day of struggle for women and their rights. Following this idea, in 1910 Copenhagen hosted an International Conference of Socialist Women in which it was unanimously approved by all participants the declaration of an International Women’s Day.
Following the decision agreed at Copenhagen in 1911, the International Women's Day (IWD) was honoured the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19 March with rallies campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination. In 1913, Russian women observed their first International Women's Day campaigning for peace shortly before the First World War. In 1917 they began a strike for "bread and peace” and they were finally granted the right to vote.
Over the last hundred years the International Women's Day movement has been strengthened with the support of United Nations and the four conferences held in recognition and celebration of women's rights, equality, justice, development and participation in political life. The official date was set for March 8.
However, the situation of women in many parts of the world is still of discrimination against men, so international institutions continue to fight to defend their rights.
European Union countries are working hard to promote equality between men and women. In Spain, in 2007, a law was passed on this subject compelling companies to adopt measures to prevent discrimination. To encourage and acknowledge the work of companies committed to the Ley de Igualdad (Equality Act), a distinctive seal is awarded to those who stand by the application of equality in their workplace, organizational models, services, products and advertising. Their motto: "Equality in Work", features in this stamp.

Rate D - €2.10. For a “standard” Ordinary International letter or postcard addressed to the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, up to 20 g.
