EXFILNA 2011. VALLADOLID

HISTORY

The National Philatelic Exhibition EXFILNA 2011 is one of the most important Spanish philatelic events which aims at stimulating and encouraging stamp collecting. This year’s 49th edition will take place in Valladolid from the 30th September to the 8th October at the Cúpula del Milenium. In addition to the exhibition frames there will be a stand from Correos and another one from the Spanish National Mint. On occasion of this new edition of EXFILNA a souvenir sheet is issued depicting in both the stamp and the sheet an aerial view of the city of Valladolid and the Cúpula del Milenium installed in the Millennium Square.

The Cúpula del Milenium, built by Figueras born architect Enric Ruiz Geli and his team, was originally made for the Expo Zaragoza 2008. After the close of the Expo the municipality of Valladolid purchased the 1,500 m2 pavilion for cultural, exhibition, social and sport events. It is a strange circular building whose surface is covered by transparent inflatable ETFEs reflecting the sunlight during the day and allowing for the interior lighting to be seen at night.

The dome is designed from an organic/technological approach applied to architecture and is installed in a large urban area of Valladolid which aims to integrate the two banks of the river Pisuerga. It will host this year’s EXFILNA in its 49th national competitive edition organized by the Philatelic and Numismatic Group of Valladolid.
