MARCA ESPAÑA

A-ART

For millions of people worldwide, thinking about art evokes images of Spain or similarly, brings to the imagination its multiple art forms, either from the past or the present.Spain is a reference country within the world of art, culture and, for many decades now, the field of sports as well.

The different civilizations that settled in the Iberian Peninsula left cultural traces, either by integration or cross-breeding, and artists from these times past, created the common features we now define as Spanish art.

Emergence occurred during the Golden Age, a period during which for almost two centuries and within the renaissance and baroque movements, a multitude of important artists in the fields of literature, visual arts, architecture and music, appeared. During the same period, the colonial activity of our country allowed art and Spanish culture to transcend to form the Hispanic ambit.

The winds of the nineteenth century brought with them travellers, artists and foreign writers who discovered, praised and spread the word about great Spanish artistic works and their creators.Under the aegis of the trio of great masters of painting: El Greco, Velázquez and Goya, a numerous and assorted group of architects, sculptors, painters and musicians and their respective creations, came to represent the image of Spain abroad.

The list of worldwide famous Spanish artists grew during the XX Century and continues to do so today, opening the way for the different disciplines within the framework of Art: from Picasso, Dalí and Miró to Tápies and Barceló; from Gaudí to Moneo and Calatrava; from Gargallo and González to Oteiza and Chillida; from Falla and Turina to Halfter and Bernaola; from Buñuel and Berlanga to Almodóvar and Amenábar; from Cristóbal Balenciaga and Paco Rabanne to Modesto Lomba and from Juan María Arzak to David Muñoz, through to Ferran Adrià…
