HISTORY

GENERAL STATE ADMINISTRATION ORGANISATIONS

As part of the State Administration Bodies series, Correos is issuing a stamp dedicated to the State Industrial Engineer Corps, as with previous issues featuring the Road, Canal and Port Engineers Corps and the Higher Corps of Civil Administrators.

The State Industrial Engineer Corps is formed by civil servants and was founded by Royal Decree in 1911. Since then, it has developed Spain's industrial and energy policies.

This Corps is currently part of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. It has been a major player in Spain's industrialisation and development. In the 1960s, with the large-scale development and liberalisation resulting from Spain's Stabilisation Plan, the growth of Spanish state industry was carried out thanks to the National Institute of Industry. In the energy crisis in the 1970s, they designed National Energy Plans. In the 1980s, due to the country's adaptation to joining the European Community, there was a process of industrial restructuring and the application of policies with a new focus. The 1990s saw the liberation of the energy and telecommunications sectors.

Nowadays, their most important tasks include the production and execution of Spain's policies in areas such as industry, energy, telecommunications and the information society. They are also concerned with fostering entrepreneurism and innovation, taking part in the design of new models such as “Industry 4.0” and the “Circular Economy”.

The stamp aims to illustrate these latest advances with the image of a robotic arm that is divided between reality and a model of it. The coat of arms of the State Industrial Engineers Corps appears on a silver band.
