COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS. 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL VEHICLE FLEET

2015 marks the 80th anniversary of the creation of the National Vehicle Fleet.
The National Vehicle Fleet (Parque Móvil del Estado - PME) is responsible for conserving and maintaining vehicular heritage in Spain. As it is a subsidiary of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration, the majority of Spain's official cars are kept and repaired at the ministry's offices. It is located in a magnificent building on Calle Cea Bermúdez.
The collection includes classic cars that once formed part of the National Vehicle Fleet, used for transporting senior dignitaries from both the Spanish Government and from other countries on official visits. It also features ambulances, motorcycles, lorries and, of course, official cars currently in use, which provide specific services that include: representation services for senior officials of the State Administration, public organisations, public-law bodies or those linked to State Constitutional bodies; general or standard services requested by the government departments and other State Administration organisations.
In 2015, there was an exhibition featuring a large number of historic vehicles, along with the tools and utensils used for their maintenance.
A large mural painted by Germán Calvo in 1951 entitled “Los oficios del automóvil” [Automotive workers] was on show at this exhibition for the first time. The work features a replica of the famous industrialist murals painted by Diego Rivera in the 1930s, in the Ford and General Motors car factories in the US city of Detroit.
The stamp commemorating the 80th anniversary of the National Vehicle Fleet's foundation shows a vehicle from that period, as well as an interior view of the magnificent building that houses this institution. The image is completed with the 80th anniversary logo and its associated dates: 1935-2015.
