HISTORY

12 MONTHS, 12 STAMPS. BALEARIC ISLANDS.

This month the series 12 months, 12 stamps continues as Correos issues a stamp dedicated to the Balearics. This stamp will be used as a single type of postage for all parcels sent from the post offices in the featured province.

The Balearic Islands stamp, in line with the previous ones, is represented with the letters IB, which represent the old vehicle number plates in Spain.

The space within the letters shows significant elements of the province.

The island of Ibiza is known around the world for its beautiful coves and crystal-clear sea, as well as its famous clubs and nightlife. Clubs like Space, Pachá, Privilege, and Amnesia attract millions of dance music enthusiasts every year, and many tourists who love the island’s party lifestyle. But Ibiza also offers tradition, culture, cuisine, street markets and other charms, making it a very desirable destination.

The Lilford's wall lizard is a reptile species that used to be found on the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, and some of the neighbouring small islands. Due to habitat loss, it has now disappeared from the larger islands but continues to inhabit the islets. It is an omnivorous species that likes to sunbathe on top of shrubs, and feeds on insects, small invertebrates, some plant matter and carrion. It is one of the symbols of the Balearic archipelago.

La Cala de Mondragó is one of Mallorca’s most beautiful coves, located in the Natural Park of the same name. It is notable for its setting and landscape, but attracts fewer visitors than other coves on the island, and is quiet and peaceful.

The famous ensaimada is one of the most traditional local products. A type of sweet roll made with flour, water, sugar and egg, it has become a favourite all over Spain.

The lower yellow stripe recalls the provincial flag.
