HISTORY

AMERICA UPAEP

Since 1989, the UPAEP member countries have issued a philatelic series with stamps based on a common theme.
This year, the chosen theme is tourism, more specifically Tourist Destinations.
The Postal Union of the Americas, Spain and Portugal (UPAEP) was founded in 1911 by Francisco García y Santos, Director General of the Uruguay Post Office. Its aim is to promote and defend the provision of the universal postal service, to improve and expand the postal market and to promote cooperation for development among the member countries, to facilitate the exchange of information and, above all, to improve the quality of service, interoperability the security of its networks, by promoting and applying new information technologies.
The stamp being issued takes the colours of the Spanish flag. The yellow background is contrasted with a red carnation, a typical Spanish flower representing the character of this country: passionate, intense and strong.
The tilde of the letter “Ñ” appears in front of the flower, as a true Spanish symbol.
The UPAEP seal and the letter “ñ” of the Spanish Brand complete the design of this new stamp.
Spain is a tourist destination chosen by millions of people from all over the world, who come here every year to enjoy the wonders of the country.
The sun, sea, mountains, and cuisine, along with the friendly nature of the Spaniards, the good weather, art and culture, make Spain one of the most visited countries in the world.
Correos plays its part in the promotion of Spanish tourism by issuing stamps dedicated to this theme every year. Stamp designs provide important information on the issuing countries and spark the interest of collectors. as well as anyone who receives a letter or a package with these stamps anywhere in the world.
