Juvenia 2017. Avilés

HISTORY

JUVENIA 2017. AVILÉS.
Avilés will become the European capital of Philately from 10 to 13 May when it hosts the 25th edition of Juvenia in conjunction with the first edition of MaxiEspaña.
The Spanish Federation of Philatelic Societies (FESOFI) has organised Juvenia since 1971, giving awards for the best collections to young philatelists from several European countries.
This year, Avilés has been chosen to host this event for the youngest fans and for veterans too, who contribute their experience and meet the new generations of philatelists coming up behind them.
The Avilés Philatelic Group has been working hard to prepare the city to host the Juvenia 2017 event. Moreover, this year the event has a special tenor as the European Federation of Philatelic Societies (FEPA) has recently recognised the Exposition.
As it has done each year this event is held, Correos will again issue a stamp in its honour. This year, the stamp features an illustration of the façade of Avilés City Hall in bright colours along with the FESOFI emblem in the shape of a butterfly. The stamps come in a Premium Sheet designed with some of the stamps that Correos has issued for previous editions.
It also features the logotypes for the different associations that participate in the National Junior Philately Exposition: FESOFI, FEPA, FSFI, the Cyprus Philatelic Society and the Fédération Française des Associations.
The Premium Sheet also features a pair of lace-up shoes to remind us of the young collectors who participate in the exposition, along with a brief description that also lists this year’s participating countries: Spain, France, Italy and Chile.
Expositions like this one demonstrate that Philately is more alive than ever and not just a hobby for adults; the art of stamp collecting knows no ages or borders.
