HISTORY

CHRISTMAS. ST JOSEPH. STAR.

This year, the classically religious Christmas issue is dedicated to St Joseph. This stamp continues the collection launched in 2015 with the stamp featuring the Baby Jesus and followed last year with the figure of the Virgin Mary to conclude with this stamp featuring the figure of St Joseph, belonging the Neapolitan Nativity of Santo Domingo de la Calzada.
As the stamps before it, the silhouette of St Joseph is die-cut and self-adhesive, and may also be added to the 2015-2017 Christmas Collectable Card. If the silhouette is not removed, it remains in the form of a standard format stamp.
For two years, Correos has wished to bring the traditional act of “setting up the Nativity scene” to philately, an act that still brings families together at this important time of year.
The image of St Joseph shows the father of Jesus with his hand on his chest, physically showing his admiration for the child.
The second stamp being issued by Correos for Christmas represents a typical Christmas star, which can also be added to the Christmas tree-shaped Christmas Collectible Card campaign, which was launched last year with the “little bell” and that will conclude in 2018 with a stamp featuring a “present”.
The stamps have an internal die-cut form that allows the silhouette of the decorative figure to be removed in order to decorate the Christmas tree on the card or, as with the stamp featuring St Joseph, they can be left intact for use as a standard stamp.
The “star” represented on the stamp is a golden star that includes the Correos logo alongside the words “Christmas” and “Spain”, as well as Tariff A, which is the stamp’s postal value.
The St Joseph stamp will be issued with Tariff B.
Correos encourages collectors and the general public to decorate our Nativity scene and our Christmas tree with its most iconic hallmark - its stamps.
