HISTORY

TUNA MUSICAL GROUPS.
This new Premium Sheet dedicated to Tuna musical groups features traditional items like the bandurria and the tambourine, books to show that these groups consist of students, and the beca usually worn by the tunos (senior members): in this case, Tuna España wears the colours of the Spanish flag.
Tuna España was designated a "Spanish Brand" as an institution of interest for the promotion of Spain, both inside and outside its borders.
The background of the Premium Sheet is a musical score.
Tunas are a University tradition, probably originating with minstrels and troubadours who sang for a living, as well as goliards, who were students who wrote and performed satirical or racy songs. They sang about fiestas, wine, and profane love.
This nomadic and picaresque spirit shaped these groups of students and is still evident today. As well as livening up parties and serenading the girls, tunas preserve traditional Spanish instruments such as the bandurria, lauds, and guitars, described by the Archpriest of Hita in The Book of Good Love.
Many universities, schools and faculties have a Tuna to represent them beyond their walls.
Well-known songs such as Clavelitos, Noche de Ronda and Adelita have become folk classics.
The main stamp of this issue depicts the silhouette of a tuno, wearing a Tuna España beca and playing a guitar adorned with the typical coloured ribbons that they usually offer as gifts to the girls they serenade.
Next to the name of Tuna España, the Spanish letter “ñ” represents the Spanish Brand.
