HISTORY

Correos continues the 12 months, 12 stamps, 12 provinces series with this stamp dedicated to Malaga. It is to be used this month as a single type of postage for all mailings from post offices in Malaga. It is represented by the letters ‘MA’, alluding to the vehicle number plates once used in Spain. The stamp shows some of the most noticeable elements of the province.

Centre Pompidou. In 2013, Malaga was chosen as the first city outside France to have a site of this Parisian art centre.

La Manquita. That is the name given to the Cathedral in Malaga, because one of its towers is unfinished.

Toro de Lidia This sculpture, dedicated to the Spanish fighting bull, is located in the city of Ronda, the birthplace of classic bullfighting.

Alcazaba. It is of Muslim origin and located on a hill on the side of Mount Gibralfaro. Its sea views and the sound of the water from its fountains make it a special place.

La Farola. That is how the lighthouse in Malaga is known. This lighthouse guides ships that pass by the bay.

Moscatel. A wine named after the very mature grape it comes from, which spends a long time in the sun.

Espetos. A typical Malaga dish of sardines, which are skewered on a sugar cane stick and grilled on an open fire.

María Zambrano. Thinker, philosopher and essayist from Malaga who won the Prince of Asturias Award in 1981, and the Cervantes Award in 1988.
