HISTORY

12 MONTHS. 12 STAMPS.12 PROVINCES. SEVILLE.

Seville takes centre stage in a new issue of stamps in the 12 Months, 12 Stamps, 12 Provinces series. The stamp will be standard postage in all post offices in the featured province this month. Seville is also the city chosen for this year’s EXFILNA / ECC 2018. Like the 2016 event in Zaragoza, this convention will bring collectors and major stamp dealers together, and is also an opportunity to get out and about in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. From 31 October to 4 November, this enchanting location will be full of stamps, philately, and related activities.

Now there is no excuse to miss out on Seville’s famous atmosphere and historical settings. In fact, in 2018 it was declared the World’s Best City to Visit by a leading travel guide, the first Spanish city to earn the accolade.

It’s represented on the stamp with the letters SE, forming a composition with some of the province’s most characteristic features, such as olive trees or the River Guadalquivir, and famous emblems of the city like the statue of Jesús del Gran Poder; an important part of Seville’s Easter traditions, created by Juan de Mesa in 1620.

One of the most spectacular squares in Seville, Plaza de España, draws visitors to sit and marvel at its architecture and decoration.

And of course, a symbol of Seville: La Giralda, the tower of the Cathedral of Santa María, topped by the famous Giraldillo weathervane.

The background of the stamp shows yellow sand from the district of Los Alcores. The green strip along the bottom alludes to the province’s flag.
