SPANISH CINEMA. SITGES INTERNATIONAL CATALAN FANTASY FILM FESTIVAL

Continuing with its series of stamps dedicated to Spain’s various film festivals, Correos pays homage to this year's International Catalan Fantasy Film Festival, which takes place from 4 to 14 October 2018.

The Catalan International Fantasy Film Festival is not only the first event of its kind in the world but is also the means of cultural expression with the largest media impact in Catalonia. With a successful track record behind it, the Sitges Festival constitutes a stimulating universe of meetings, exhibitions, presentations and screenings of fantasy films from around the world.
Created in 1968 as the 1st International Fantasy and Horror Film Week, the Festival is a must for film lovers and audiences today keen to discover new trends and the technologies being used in films and the audiovisual world. Being the world's first fantasy film festival enables Sitges to play host to visits from big-name actors, directors and producers, such as Quentin Tarantino, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Paul Verhoeven, Ralph Fiennes, George A. Romero, Cameron Diaz, Viggo Mortensen, Terry Gilliam, Rutger Hauer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, John Landis, Joe Dante, Zoë Bell, Dino de Laurentii, Takashi Miike, Wim Wenders, Tony Curtis, David Cronenberg, Vanessa Redgrave, Darren Aronofsky, Brad Dourif, John McNaughton, Peter Greenaway, John Woo, Park Chan-Wook, Johnnie To, Paul Naschy, Ray Liotta, Jon Voight, Sam Raimi, Robert Englund, Tarsem Singh, Roger Corman, Mira Sorvino, Santiago Segura, Narciso Ibáñez Serrador, Guillermo del Toro, Kim Ki Duk, Álex de la Iglesia, Aitana Sánchez Gijón, Guillermo del Toro, William Friedkin and Susan Sarandon, to name but a few from a long list that has been drawing attention from the media year after year.
The Festival is run by a Foundation, made up of representatives from Sitges City Council and the Regional Government of Catalonia as well as other institutions, associations and public and private enterprises.

The stamp issued for the Sitges Festival is presented in a Premium sheet format and includes a special effect that is revealed when the stamp is exposed to ultraviolet light.
