HISTORY

THE 90S GENERATION

The 90s was a period of progress and this miniature sheet aims to serve as a memento of the events that shaped the history of humanity.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in the previous decade, the economic, monetary and social reunification of Germany began in 1990. This stamp truly represents this event, forming part of the miniature sheet dedicated to this period.

Another stamp commemorates the collapse of the USSR, the dissolution of the largest socialist state in the world, which also marked the end of the Cold War.

The world experienced tumultuous events and numerous political and social changes as shown in these stamps. Other notable events include the return of democracy to Chile and Peru, Bill Clinton becoming President of the USA, and Tony Blair Prime Minister of the UK.

In South Africa, the apartheid was finally ended after years of racial segregation.

Spain, along with other European countries, reached an agreement for creating a single European currency. A stamp with the image of a 100 Euro note commemorates this event.

Two large events put Spain in the global spotlight, both in terms of culture and sport. The Olympic Games in Barcelona and the Universal Exposition of Seville changed the international image of our country forever. A stamp with the logos of both events makes up one of this issue’s stamps.

The miniature sheet is cast with the figure 90 and very typical colours from this period.

This historic miniature sheet is completed by the phrase from Toy Story, Pixar’s feature film, as well as the first completely animated film with digital effects in the history of cinema, “To infinity and beyond”.

Both the milestones that are illustrated and the design of the miniature sheet have been chosen by the philately subscribers.
