Final Four Vitoria-Gasteiz 2019

HISTORY

THE FINAL FOUR VITORIA-GASTEIZ 2019

After a 19-year wait, competing against great cities such as Moscow, Vitoria is set to host the 2019 Euroleague Basketball Final Four.

The final four clashes, the final phase of the most renowned European competition at club level, will take place on Basque soil.

The “Fernando Buesa Arena”, the largest pavilion in Spain with 15,544 seats, with be the main centre of the competition, although other Basque cities such as Bilbao and San Sebastian will also be involved.

Vitoria and the rest of the Basque Country will also offer other activities beyond those purely related to sport, such as congresses, festivals and even an eno-gastronomic space.

Vitoria-Gasteiz will become the basketball capital of the Old Continent and for this reason Correos also wants to celebrate with a mini sheet dedicated to this exciting event.

It is characterised by an official competition ball embossing and basketball net like those seen on the courts. Additionally, and to make this stamp even more exclusive, it will be presented on a Premium sheet of 6 stamps, including the embossed basketball.

The logo, specially designed for the occasion, combines the most emblematic elements of the city such as the famous Four Towers of the old town: the Cathedral of Santa María, the church of San Vicente Mártir, the church of San Miguel and the church of San Pedro Apóstol. What’s more, a basketball appears bouncing on the horizon of the buildings, symbolising the four teams going head to head in the final.

Between the towers you can see the Fernando Buesa Arena, where the Final Four will take place.

Gastronomic tradition is also represented in the logo with a toothpick crossing the letters of the Final Four, as a tribute to the region’s typical pintxos.

The values of sport will make Vitoria-Gasteiz the continental basketball capital this May.
