HISTORY

COVID-19

Two interlocked hands, giving and receiving support. Accompanying, listening, feeling the warmth, the fear, the uncertainty, This is the stamp with which Correos pays well-deserved homage to the people who have been and are currently on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also serves as a reminder of all those who have succumbed to the virus and those that have had it and beaten it.

Just a few months ago, this was a threat that nobody could have envisaged, interrupting our lives, paralysing the world, and leaving us shut in our houses separated from our loved ones and with our normal lives disrupted.

A virus the size of a thousandth of a human hair, it has paralysed the world's population, breaking financial barriers and, what is even more catastrophic, ending the lives of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

Right from the onset of the pandemic, Spaniards have behaved in an exemplary, united manner. First, there are the health workers, who have worked tirelessly despite being exposed to contagion, many of them succumbing to the virus; and then there are the essential service workers, including food suppliers, supermarket workers, cleaners, transport workers, postal workers, care workers, bank staff, technicians, energy sector workers, media sector workers, police and armed forces personnel, and firemen, among many others, who have been at the forefront of the battle covering the needs of the rest of the population.

We must not forget the chain of solidarity that emerged with force right from the onset of the pandemic. As usual, Spanish citizens have not forgotten the most vulnerable among us, forming waves of solidarity, including the master chefs who have teamed up with companies like Correos to bring these people meals. Individuals and small businesspeople are all doing their bit so that this virus does the least possible damage to us.

The mini sheet where a stamp represents the hand of unity and also applauding hands to express gratitude.
