HISTORY

TREASURY ORPHANS SCHOOL 90th ANNIVERSARY

The Treasury Orphans School is a non-profit organisation whose essential purpose is to protect its members’ children in the event of decease or permanent disability.

The main aim of the Treasury Orphans School it to protect and help children of members who die or who need help.

Proposed by José Calvo Sotelo, the Treasury Minister, the School for Orphans of Treasury officials was created by King Alfonso XIII, through Royal Decree on 24 May 1927, as a charity for the protection of Treasury officials’ orphans, to give them care, instruction and education in the event of members’ death or disability.

Currently, the School aims at offering help and services enabling members and their families to improve their quality of life, without forgetting the founding purpose which is still very much alive and consists of paying benefits to members’ orphans.

Furthermore, nowadays it also has a guardianship foundation which offers children of members in a vulnerable position protection and ensures their rights as people, as well as aid to the parents of the deceased members who need particular care.

The foundation also provides discounts for its members in hotels and spas, for travel or shows and even for pet-related matters.

The Treasury Orphans School also organised photography and story competitions which involve the Treasury staff and family members.

The stamp commemorating the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the institution, apart from its logo, includes an illustration of an adult hand offering itself to a child’s hand as a gesture of protection and safety.
