COVID-19 WASTE MANAGEMENT.
Since COVID-19 turned all our lives upside down, the world has been fighting it on many battlefields.
As well as caring for the sick, preventing infections, and developing vaccines and treatments to mitigate or cure this terrible disease, there are other less obvious challenges which may be just as important for the future of the planet, including managing the waste generated by the situation.
Correos hopes to be an actively part of this worldwide struggle and help protect the environment by bringing special attention to the management of COVID waste.
To do this, it is issuing a stamp cut in the shape of a waste disposal bin with a mask deposited in it.
The stamp is framed in a diptych mini sheet holding 6 postcards with rate A pre-paid postage, designed to raise awareness of how this waste is invading different natural spaces.
Correos hopes to encourage the public to be responsible in their use of masks, gloves and other protective equipment, using them appropriately and especially making sure to dispose of them properly to minimise their impact on the environment.
Whenever possible, it is a good idea to use reusable PPE, and especially to deposit them in containers for recycling or destruction by specialist companies.
In this way, when this pandemic finally ends, we will have limited some of the damage on our lives.
We should not forget that protecting the environment also means protecting our health and our future.
