CIVIC VALUES. SPAIN’S FOOD BANKS. 25TH FESBAL CONFERENCE
Civic values are the set of behaviours considered positive for the growth of society.
Civic values must be transmitted through the generations for society to keep progressing in a positive way and to ensure they are not lost and forgotten.
This year Correos’ stamp in the Civic Values series features Spain’s Food Banks.
The main goal of food banks is to recover surplus goods which are fit for human consumption and to distribute them free of charge through charities and other bodies to the people who need them.
This means food can be put to good use, avoiding waste and meeting the basic needs of people who are finding it hard to afford food and other basic products.
Also, by avoiding surpluses going to landfill, food banks are good for the environment.
One of the main values of the Spanish Federation of Food Banks is its thousands of volunteers who keep it running.
Without receiving anything in return, these people spend their time and efforts on helping others.
One of the Federation’s most important events is its Food Drive.
Since 2014, the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) has coordinated Spain’s 54 food banks in promoting and publicising the campaign.
In 2012 they were awarded the Price of Asturias Prize for Concord for their tireless work.
The stamp shows an illustration of the FESBAL logo, showing a bird feeding two others alluding to the organisation's unselfish efforts.
